Children's Liturgy

Mother and ChildrenOn the first Sunday of the month we have a Children's Family Mass at 10.00am where the children and young people are encouraged to take an active part in the Mass. During the other Sunday 10 am Mass (Term Time Only) the children of the congregation are invited to attend a separate Liturgy of the Word where they are introduced to important aspects of God's message. We do this by allowing them to celebrate God's word at their own pace, giving them the opportunity to offer their thoughts and reflections on the Gospel. They return for the offertory procession. Children up to the age of 11 normally attend, and a parent is welcome to accompany very young children if they wish to. We would like to extend the invitation to all children to come.

Child with hand raisedThe children gather at the front of the church and, led by the Book of the Word, the children and their leaders process to the hall where they listen to a simplified version of the Gospel of the day. There is some discussion and an activity to help the children understand. This is followed by a simple Creed and Child with drawingbidding prayers.

The children return to the Church — often with some evidence of what they have been doing — bringing the Liturgy of the Word to an end. Some of the children are then invited to bring the offertory gifts and the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins.

We are always looking for volunteers. If you would like to help, please contact the presbytery.
